The Shepherdstown Opera House always has something entertaining going on and coming up within the next couple of weeks are a couple of musical entertainers.

On June 25th at 8pm, the group known as The Dustbowl Revival will be performing songs from their various albums. Every performance is planned as they go, so each one is different; If you’ve seen them before, go again!

I did get the chance to interview both of these groups. If you’d like to hear these, head over to the ESPN 1340 blog here a couple days before each performance. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Blackshade Hacking!

Ever seen a family member or coworker have a post-it note over their webcam and called them crazy? They may not be so crazy after all. Co-founder and security consultant from Casaba Security, Jason Glassberg, tells the Panhandle Spotlight listeners about hackers that use a program known as “Blackshades” that allows them to remotely operate your computer and any devices attached to it - this includes webcams. Check out the blog for ESPN 1340 AM to get all the information on how hackers operate and ways to avoid them.

You told me last summer
How you wanted to draw my hands
That they were rough
But beautiful

That night I used my hands
To draw pictures on your body
And trace my lust
Across your spine

You drew my face instead
A portrait of the man you love
We had grown close
I held your heart

But at night when you’re cold
I still use you as a canvas
And with my hands
Spell out your name

The more I think about where I want to go in life, what I want to see, who I want to become and whatnot.. the more I realize how horribly impossible it is to decide on any of that. With Life you’re better off pointing your arrow in the general direction you’d like to head off in, and letting it fly off through the fog. Now don’t get me wrong, there are people who have spent years planning how and when exactly they’re going to end up where they know they wanna be in 5 years. But what happened to just rolling with the punches? Letting loose and just sort of working things out as they happen? People tend to get all up in a bunch because some smaller event popped up that they had no control over, that threw off their overall plan. and by “threw off” I mean “delayed the next step from occurring” which really isn’t worth getting so worked up and stressed out about, is it?
Think about it; you’ll spend more of your life here chasing after your dreams and doing the things you want to do, so why not take the few moments to just be okay that something didn’t go exactly as planned and figure out a new way to get to what you’re after? Having a sour attitude about these events only makes them more difficult to work through and you could miss something beautiful all because you decided that staring angrily at your shoes was the best way to pass the time. Things happen that people can’t control, every day. It’s just a fact of life that you don’t get to call all the punches.
Now whether you believe in such a thing as divine purpose or a higher being, I don’t particularly care, that’s up to you. But personally, I think that everything happens for a reason. If something doesn’t go as you had planned, it’s because you don’t really know what’s best – as much as everyone likes to believe they do – you really don’t. You didn’t get that promotion you’ve wanted so badly? It’s okay, something better will work its way to you. A family member/friend needs your help but it’ll push off your plans for a year? So what. Help them.  People don’t seem to realize what one act of kindness can do for a person.
Would you rather get everything you wanted done, finished on time and ready to go on through your life, but have no one to call your friend? because you were never there for anyone besides yourself? Okay, congratulations, you reached your goal, but who are you going to celebrate it with? Often when we chase after something we want for ourselves so badly, we become one track minded and closed to anything else that may rise up around us. We won’t notice the scenery changing, the landscape rising up all around us, or – like that old saying goes – we won’t stop to smell the flowers.

Always stop to smell the flowers. You never know what wonder could be hiding amongst their petals.

Inspired by a couple of Mike’s own experieces with people he’s close to having their lives destroyed by medical debt, this performance is bound to open your eyes.

I wish you well

What have I gotten into?
Something so strong I can’t even feel
Everyday is still normal
I still feel the same
But every sensation is a little more real
I don’t know why I went and did this.
You’re racing through all of my veins
Just thinking of those moments
I speed up
I can’t tell if I’m sane or insane
You aren’t the first to chase me.
Refusal was always my go to
But this is different
This is stronger
What sort of storm have I got up & walked through?
I can’t think for 2 seconds without you.
Every scene and scent fills my mind
The way you gaze softly
The way you kiss passionately
I keep forgetting that you are not mine
Continually telling myself I feel nothing.
But my heart is picking up the pace
I’m just thinking
You’re no where near
But it’s like I’ve entered a whole new race
Never have I felt so overtaken.
Every sentence spoken echoes within
I am chasing
Something I can’t have
Have I committed a terrible sin?
Your laughter is everything I need.
Reminders that there’s joy in your life
Even if I’m left on my own
Standing solitary in the wind
I wouldn’t ever wish you any strife..

Waking Up

You are thoughts & understanding

Through drunken eyes & sober words

When I look at you I’m landing

Every syllable spoken is heard

Your lips on mine speak passion

A language known in only my dreams

The style of it is old fashion

But it rethreads the gaps in my seams

It’s windy and cold, it was raining

Not that it matters within these four walls

You whisper some words about staying

Something else about starting to fall

I try to swim back to the surface

Crash back into the real world

I get the feeling that I can’t cure this

Inhaling your breath sends my mind in a twirl

Someone once tried to tell me about time

The doctor traveled it a thousand trips over

Can’t remember that this is not mine

And it’s time I refaced my covers

Such A Strong Kiss

Summer stars flicker within chilly air
we dance around joking, we don’t have a care.
Nothin but you and me beneath the watchful sky
laughing oblivious to the world to pass by.
Chase me, embrace me, as we tumble down
with a smile like yours, I never can frown.
Catching our breaths, something else catches us
not sure what it is but lets get it, we must!
Drawn like a magnet to a light in your eye
it tugs at my heart strings, stealing a sigh.
Suddenly perfection is touching my face
fireworks, explosions, burst out in space.
Covered in quick ice, before wrapped in your fire
who knew a small kiss
                   could

                        hold
                             so
                               much

                         desire?

Recently I was finally able to get my camera! I’ve never actually owned a legit digital one - I have a holga and my dads old film one, if I wanted digital I always had to borrow from someone else. Besides my iPod, digital photography was just a dream for me. Now I actually have my own camera, Samsung NX2000, and it’s the most amazing thing ever!

This thing has 20.1 megapixels, you can edit the photos right there on the camera’s touch screen, and with the wi-fi capabilities you can send the shots taken to family and friends right then and there. I’m so in love with this thing <3

There are loads of other features (many different photo settings, 1080p video capabilities, not to mention changeable lenses) but I’m just listing a few.

If you’re looking for a really nice camera, definitely look into this one. You can check out a review here at Photography Blog

I’m not being paid to say these things, no one’s sponsoring me or what have you, I’m just reallyexcited to finally have an awesome camera :)

These are just a few of the photos I’ve taken and can’t wait to take many many more!
